The city of Leiden lies in the south west of the Netherlands and is about 26 km south of Amsterdam.
Leiden is ideally located between the big cities of Amsterdam and The Hague and has its advantages of being within half an hour reach of their places of interest. The city can be reached easily from an international point of view, Schiphol airport lies just 20 minutes away and Rotterdam Airport lies at 25 minutes distance.

Getting to Leiden from Amsterdam Schiphol airport
If you arrive at Schiphol airport, follow the signs to the trains. You can buy a full-fare one-way ticket at the yellow ticket machines at the airport (close to the entrance to the train station). There are English instructions available, and tickets can be paid using coins or debit card.
There is a regular rail service from Schiphol to Leiden Central. The train continues south to The Hague Central or Dordrecht. Trains run six times an hour and in one stop. The journey takes 15-20 minutes and costs €5.80 (2nd class) or €9.90 (1st class). You arrive in the centre of Leiden with most hotels and the conference venue at walking distance.
A taxi from Amsterdam Schiphol airport to Leiden would normally cost around €40-€50 on the meter. Some companies can offer lower fixed fares. For example, local Leiden taxi company Taxi Rijnland or Wielkens has a fixed €35-47 Leiden-Schiphol fare either way based on reservations.
Getting to Leiden from Amsterdam Central railway station
Train services run every 15 minutes via Amsterdam Sloterdijk, Haarlem, Heemstede-Aerdenhout. The journey takes 27 minutes. One-way tickets costs €9 (2nd class) or €15.30 (1st class).
Getting to Leiden from Rotterdam The Hague Airport
Next to the terminal you will find the bus stop where you can get on and off. From Rotterdam The Hague Airport you take bus 33 to Rotterdam Central Station. This bus ride will take approximately 25 minutes.
Getting to Leiden from Rotterdam Central Railway station
Train services run every 15 minutes from Rotterdam to Leiden. This 34 minute trip costs €7.40 (2nd class) or €12.60 (1st class).
Getting to Leiden from Eindhoven Airport
Next to the terminal you will find the bus stop where you can get on and off. From Eindhoven Airport you take bus 400 or 401 to Eindhoven Central Station. This bus ride will take approximately 20 minutes.
Getting to Leiden from Eindhoven Central Railway Station
An intercity train service runs from Eindhoven to Leiden central with one transfer at Utrecht Central. The 1 hour and 40-minute trip costs €20.20 (2nd class) or €34.30 (1st class).
By rail High-Speed Trains
The Netherlands is served by ICE high-speed trains to and from Germany, stopping in Rotterdam and Amsterdam and running as far as Basel and Zurich in Switzerland, Vienna and Innsbruck in Austria and Aarhus and Copenhagen in Denmark. Thalys high-speed trains run to and from Belgium and France, with the possibility of transferring in Lille to the Eurostar to the UK and Paris and to northern Spain.
If you are heading to Leiden by rail from France/Belgium/UK, you should change at Rotterdam and not Amsterdam. This can include Eurostar passengers from London who changed in Brussels, Thalys passengers from Paris/Brussels/Antwerp and Intercity passengers from Brussels/Antwerp.
On arrival at Leiden Central railway station go to the main hall. From there, you could walk to the conference venues and city center in approximately 15 minutes. All buses depart from the bus station next to the railway station. Bus services run very frequently to the ‘Breestraat’ or ‘Kort Rapenburg’ bus stop, which is 3 minutes away from the conference venues. Once every 5 minutes you can take bus number 1 (direction Leiderdorp Alrijne Zkh) to ‘Kort Rapeburg’ or bus number 45 (direction Den Haag) to ‘Breestraat’, which is the nearest bus stop to the conference venues.

Driving to Leiden – Leiden city centre can be reached by car using the A4, A44 and N11 motorways. The city centre is a low-traffic zone, but Leiden also has a unique and efficient city parking plan. A free shuttle bus service is available from a parking location on the edge of the historic centre to any desired location within the city. In summer, you can also be transported to the city centre by water taxi. And in Leiden you will find the deepest parking garage in Europe.
We don’t recommend visitors to drive to Leiden if they only need to visit the city centre, as parking rates are high. We recommend to use Google Maps to plan your route in the Netherlands.
Since it is difficult to reach the conference venues by car, we advise to park your car in one of the parking garages below and walk from there to the venue.
